Caribbean Red Cross Youth Network – Update #1
To all members of the Caribbean Regional Red Cross Youth Network
We, the members of the Coordinating Committee, sincerely thank you for the confidence placed in us, and would like to take this opportunity to update you as to where things are since the Youth Forum.
First off, as you are all aware by now, Michael has since accepted a scholarship to further his studies abroad. We are all extremely proud of him and wish him the best for his future. Unfortunately, this meant that he has had to tender an ‘early’ resignation from the Coordinating Committee, as he will be out of the region for five years.
As such, Charlie Joseph from the Montserrat Red Cross was asked to step in; as he was the male with the next highest number of votes according to the records. He accepted and is now the fourth member of the Committee.
Since the Forum, the Coordinating Committee has had its first meeting: September 19-21, in Trinidad and Tobago. The National Society of Trinidad and Tobago graciously hosted us, and we wish to express our sincere thanks.
Items/issues discussed and worked on during the meeting were primarily based on the ‘next steps’ we identified on the last day of the Forum.
The minutes of the meeting is currently being put together. This along with the final products (in draft) of the meeting will be circulated no later than October 17. At which time you are kindly asked to give your feedback (particularly as it relates to the Network Terms of Reference and Plan of Action).
In the interim, here are a few of the things we are immediately working on:
- Clarifing procedures and send update letters to Secretary General of the Federation, Director Generals and Head of Americas Zone on the Youth Forum
- Sending the Statements from the Caribbean Youth Network the the Youth Commission
- Setting up a Fednet Caribbean Youth Section for the sharing of ‘non-public’ documents (meeting agendas, minutes, programme docs, etc)
- Verification and publication of information on the Skills Bank and RCY Programmes Database with Network members and NS/OSBs
- Completing the country planning process to align ourselves to the Guayaquil commitments
An email address for the Committee has been set up and shared (
cc.caribbean.rcy@gmail.com). Please feel free to keep in touch. We are also working on the Facebook page (some of you may have already received invitations from “Carib Child”.
Please sign up!
Thank you and look out for more information in the coming weeks.
Your coordinating team,
Marva, Charlie, Akeisha and Ashanta
