and the protection and assistance implied in
the Fundamental Principles of the International
Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Becoming a Volunteer
The Trinidad and Tobago Red
Cross Society recruits volunteers to carry out
tasks that directly or indirectly help vulnerable
people. We have various programmes and services,
which require different knowledge and skills.

Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society and to obtain
details of the programmes that we run and our current
volunteer needs, please contact the

enriches and empowers our own lives. The Trinidad
and Tobago Red Cross Society can and will work
with you to provide rewarding experiences, opportunities
to utilize your talents and provide you with training
to help you serve your community.
Roles and responsibilities
of volunteers
Each volunteer has a responsibility
to the TTRCS and the work of the TTRCS.
Volunteers should:
- Be attentive to the needs
of others at all times
- Try to be accessible and
ready to assume responsibilities
- Be realistic about his/her
availability
- Seek to serve at the level
of his/her capacity
- Be flexible, and preserve
in performing tasks undertaken
- Seek to strengthen the
Branch Division or National Secretariat by being
fully informed of its goals, objectives and policies
- Seek to improve communication
and be aware of the importance of practicing
positive interpersonal relationship skills. Be
positive and enthusiastic
- Seek advice if in doubt,
on TTRCS or Branch matters from the appropriate
authority before making a decision
Remember that when you are
working for the TTRCS you will be representing
the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and its ideals.
Each Volunteer should familiarize
themselves with the Volunteer Code of Ethics, the
Fundamental Principles, the Philosophy of Voluntary
Service, the Geneva Conventions and its two additional
protocols.

What a Trinidad &
Tobago Red Cross Society volunteer must not do
- Commit resources of the
TTRCS without prior mandate
- Misuse his/her Red Cross
position for personal advantage
- Take advantage of his/her
Red Cross status to perform private transactions
or sales from which a profit can be derived for
himself / herself or for a third party.
Code of Ethics and
Fundamentals of Voluntary Service
Act in accordance with the
Fundamental Principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Movement and promote its dissemination. Respect
the regulations on the Use of the Emblem and prevent
its misuse and abuse.
Strive to work for the highest
standard of service. Fulfill duties without discrimination
of nationality, race, gender, political views or
religious belief. Respect individuals. Respect
the confidentiality of those you assist. Promote
mutual understanding with people you work with
and for. Respond to the needs of others in a humanitarian
and compassionate way.
