of the British Red Cross following the devastation
of the island by Hurricane Janet in 1955. It became
an independent National Society in 1987 and has
its own headquarters in the country’s capital

in providing quality, dependable and reliable service
to our constituencies.
2. We will develop and implement programs to support
our core areas of activity (health and safety,
disaster preparedness and response, social welfare,

3. We will pursue those opportunities that are
financially realistic and capitalize on the technical
expertise of our staff and volunteers, and opportunities
that are of interest to our partners, our communities,
and our National Societies.
4. We will do all in our power to enhance our public
image and to win the trust and confidence of the

Our Profile
The Statutes of the GRCS are based on the Geneva
Conventions to which the State of Grenada is a
signatory. The GRCS uses the emblem of a red cross
on a white background in accordance with national
legislation, which lays down the rules governing
its indicative use together with the Regulations
on Use of the Emblem for National Societies1991.
The GRCS is officially recognized by the State
as a voluntary organization, auxiliary to the public
authorities acting for the benefit of the civilian
population, while maintaining an autonomy which
allows it to act at all times in accordance with
the Fundamental Principles of the Movement.
The GRCS is governed by a General Assembly which
is representative of all segments of the national
society, its mandate is carried out by an Governing
Board acting on its behalf, and the day to day
operations are managed by a Director General. It
performs its work through its volunteers spread
across the tri island state.

and Red Crescent Societies and the International

country mandate. There is also collaboration with
other Caribbean, regional and international societies
in sharing best practices for national society
development. The national society is assisted and
