Grenada
Grenada is part of the British Commonwealth and shares
administration of the islands of the Grenadines with Saint
Vincent. Its growing economy is primarily based on tourism.
Grenada is one of the smallest independent countries in the
western hemisphere with an area of only 344 square kilometres.
The island’s terrain is volcanic with mountains in the
centre. Grenada has a tropical climate. The island’s
location on the edge of the hurricane belt makes it susceptible
to hurricanes from June to November.
Grenada is a constitutional monarchy headed by Queen Elizabeth
II. The government is headed by Prime Minister Keith Mitchell.
Elections are scheduled for October 2004. St. George’s
is the capital of Grenada, and there are six parishes and
one democracy.
