Family Island Services
The Society provides welfare and emergency relief
services as well as training in first aid and disaster
preparedness to residents in the Family Islands. The
Society is also actively seeking to develop its
communication network and branches.
Meals on Wheels
A daily hot meal is delivered to the shut-ins
and physically challenged persons who are not able
to prepare a meal for themselves.
Home Help Service
Red Cross support staff visit the disabled persons
at home twice per week to clean and perform other
minor chores.
School Milk Scheme
Fresh milk is provided for school children in
the Family Islands as well as to a few schools
in New Providence to supplement their daily diet.
Disaster and Emergency Assistance
The Society offers a wide range of assistance
to members of the community who suffer loss as
a result of flooding, fire, hurricane, tornado
or other type of disaster.
Rental of Medical Equipment
Items such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and
hospital beds are made available to persons from
the community who might need the service. In
some cases, a small fee is charged.
Training
The Society offers a variety of courses in Emergency,
Basic and Advanced First Aid. Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR), Disaster Preparedness, Shelter
Management and Aids Education, in New Providence
and the Family Islands.
First Aid Service
The Society provides First Aid Services
to national events, sports meets, road races and
other functions as the need arises.
Junior Red Cross/Red Cross Youth
The Youth Department offers a variety of activities
for the young. These include seminars both
at home and abroad. International exchange
programmes, training, sporting activities, service
to handicapped children and senior citizens, residential
and day camps.
After-School Programme for Youth
The club offers structured programmes for vulnerable
children from ages 6 - 16 years between the hours
of 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Bahamas Red Cross Centre
for Deaf
Audiometric testing of infants and pre-school
children, as well as school children and adults
is done at the Centre for the Deaf. Close
co-operation with the Doctor at the Princess Margaret
Hospital and with the Medical Officer in charge
of the school clinics is maintained.
Prison Visits
Staff and volunteers visit the prison regularly
and provide personal items to those requiring them,
but more particularly, to the foreign detainees.
Assistance to Refugees
The Society provides food, clothing, bedding and
other personal items to illegal immigrants as well
as political or economic refugees.
