World
Blood Donor Day is an annual event held on 14 June which
is the birthday anniversary of Dr. Karl Landsteiner
who discovered ABO blood group. He was awarded the Nobel Prize
for his important discovery. World Blood Donor Day is globally
celebrated to give recognition to voluntary blood donors.
The inaugural launch was in South Africa in 2004, followed
by London in 2005. Bangkok, Thailand was the focal point
for the global celebration in 2006.
