Earth Quake Safety Tips
Earthquakes can and do happen at any time and come without any warning. These frightening and life-threatening disasters place the Caribbean constantly at risk while most people are not prepared when they do strike.  BETTER BE READY!

Be Prepared for an Earthquake.....

  • Keep a portable radio, flashlight, extra batteries, first aid kits, canned food, and bottled water on hand.

  • Discuss with your family how you will reunite following an earthquake.

  • Pick a family member or friend in another area to be your contact person. Make sure every family member knows that person's contact information.

  • Identify safe spots in every room of your home. These should be away from windows, in an inside corner, or under a sturdy desk or table.

  • Pick safe spots outside away from building, power lines, and trees. Move beds, if possible, so they are not directly under a window.

  • Inspect your home and secure items such as book shelves and water heaters that may fall during an earthquake.

  • An earthquake can happen without warning. As soon as you feel an earthquake's shaking or hear its rumble, GO TO SAFETY IMMEDIATELY..... If you are inside, go to the NEAREST inside safety spot. Make sure you protect your head. If you get under a desk or table, hold on to it.

  • If you are outside, go to a safe spot away from buildings, power lines, and trees.

  • If you are in your car, stay there until the shaking stops.

  • After an earthquake, be prepared for smaller earthquake or "after-shocks."
