Cayman Islands Red Cross - Sandra Miller

Sandra Miller

For over 20 years Sandra Miller has been volunteering her time to the Red Cross.

"The attraction of having First AID and CPR training adn then using this ability to help others was what made me join the Red Cross," she admits.

As much as she is focused on her community, Ms. Miller has also found a calling in ensuring that volunteers and staff are taken care of.

During the Hurricane Ivan operation in September of 2004 one of her primary, self-assigned roles was to ensure that staff and volunteers got their meals, water, and sometimes even the occasional cup of coffee.

Ms. Miller is a dedicated volunteer who sees the greater picture for what it is. "I have matured to realize that the  Red Cross is not just about the Cayman Islands," she explains.

"It is the positive representation around the world that this movement has influenced. This is the responsibility I have in listening to people in confidence and helping revamp situations."

Ms. Miller is a single parent to her eight year old daughter Oksana, whom she home schools. The Red Cross "has become my hobby". A hobby that she takes very seriously and that "has been satisfying".
