The second Disaster Management
(DM) Network meeting for 2007 was held after the Pre-Hurricane
meeting in Panama.
The meeting brought together representatives
of Caribbean networks - RODNET (Organisational Development),
ComNet (Communications) and CARAN (HIV and AIDS) to discuss
ways of working together more efficiently and effectively.
Emanating from the International
NGO Training and Research Centre’s (INTRAC) report
and recommendations, the DM Network sought to bring together
the views of all networks as to the level of the achievement
of their goals, what is required to improve on this and
how best the networks can work together to effectively
achieve them.
Despite the different levels of development and varying
structures (informal to formal) of the networks a common
set of recommendations were identified as being applicable
to all.

These
included:
- Increased use of internet-
based communications tools such as Skype;
- Clarity on the roles/responsibilities
of networks through training of network co-ordinators
and members, and;
- Improved communications
between networks and member National Societies
and Overseas Branches and other networks
external to the Movement.
