  ComNet Terms of Reference

The Caribbean Red Cross Communication Network (ComNet) is a group of communications and information focal points from National Societies and Overseas Branches which seek to raise the profile of the Red Cross locally, regionally and internationally.

ComNet was initially established at a Communication and Tracing workshop held December 2004 in Trinidad. Since then, a core group of persons were selected to draft a Term of Reference and a work plan for the way forward.

This group presently consists of communication officers from the Anguilla Red Cross, Grenada Red Cross and Jamaica Red Cross National Societies.

The Core Group has met several times since 2004 with the most recent meeting being an electronic meeting held on March 29, 2007 via Skype.

The meeting facilitated the development and revision of the Terms of Reference and work plan for the network.

Both documents will be sent to the Caribbean Cooperation of the Red Cross (CCORC) Executive for their feedback and then to all National Societies for their ratification.

While there is no funding currently available to execute the planned activities of the network, ComNet has decided to use creative ways (such as Skype for meetings) to achieve some of its goals.

ComNet wishes to meet every two years in a physical meeting to facilitate training and other activities, but every two months via web forum, while the core group will meet once a year in a physical meeting, but every two months via Skype.

National Societies and Overseas Branches are encouraged to support ComNet by facilitating the participation of their respective communication and information officers in the network’s planning and activities.

The next core group meeting is scheduled for May 29, 2007.
