The Port-of-Spain
Sub Regional Offices of the International Federation
of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (International
Federation) and the International Committee of the Red
Cross (ICRC) held two workshops in Trinidad in May.
The first workshop which was held
on May 8 was on the Seville Agreement and the Supplementary
Measures.
The Seville Agreement covers the
international activities of all the components of the
Movement. It underlines the “collaborative spirit,”
in which every member of the Movement values the contributions
of other members as partners in a global humanitarian
enterprise.
The Supplementary Measures, adopted
by the Council of Delegates 2005, clarifies the role
of the host National Society. The measures underlines
that the National Society in the country affected by
an emergency where the lead agency concept is used is
either the lead agency or the primary partner of the
lead agency.
In addition the measures give guidance
on how to assess when the National Society can be lead
agency and about contingency planning, negotiations
of MoUs, coordination and problem solving mechanisms.
