International Federation and ICRC hold workshops
on Seville Agreement and Communications

The Port-of-Spain Sub Regional Offices of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (International Federation) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) held two workshops in Trinidad in May.

The first workshop which was held on May 8 was on the Seville Agreement and the Supplementary Measures.

The Seville Agreement covers the international activities of all the components of the Movement. It underlines the “collaborative spirit,” in which every member of the Movement values the contributions of other members as partners in a global humanitarian enterprise.

The Supplementary Measures, adopted by the Council of Delegates 2005, clarifies the role of the host National Society. The measures underlines that the National Society in the country affected by an emergency where the lead agency concept is used is either the lead agency or the primary partner of the lead agency.

In addition the measures give guidance on how to assess when the National Society can be lead agency and about contingency planning, negotiations of MoUs, coordination and problem solving mechanisms.

Finally the measures also mention the importance of training on the Seville Agreement and these newly adopted measures.

The second workshop on May 9 was dedicated to Communications with the aim of harmonising all three components activities to present a common image of the Movement and contribute to a greater understanding of the Red Cross by the public.

The workshops were attended by Mr Glenn Wijngaarde (Suriname Red Cross); Mr Gerald Price (Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross); Ms Francine Foster (Grenada Red Cross); Mr Edmond Bradshaw (Barbados Red Cross); Mrs Dorothy Fraser (Guyana Red Cross); Ms Marina Glinton (Bahamas Red Cross); Ms Natalie Fough (St Kitts and Nevis Red Cross); Mrs Descima Hamilton (St Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross); Mr Jalaudin Khan (Trinidad and Tobago); and Mrs Yvonne Clarke (Jamaica Red Cross).
