TTRC and ADRA team up to help flooded communities

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross (TTRC) together with the Adventist Disaster Relief Agency (ADRA) recently assisted persons in the community of El Dorado who were severely affected by the flooding which took place over the weekend of September 7.

The TTRC, represented by acting director general, Angela Gouveia and other members, teamed up with representatives of ADRA to distribute relief items to persons along the Eastern Main Road, where flood waters entered homes and caused significant damage.

They visited affected persons and identified a central point for distribution where persons were given mattresses, bottled water, food hampers and other relief items.

During their visit the TTRC was asked to assist three persons in desperate need of wheel chairs. A heavy downpour during the exercise necessitated that the team shift operations to a nearby community centre.

Red Cross personnel also assisted Maniram Chuteral who had fallen into a drain during the rain and needed First Aid.

He almost drowned in the flood waters and had to be revived by trained First Aid personnel from the TTRC. He was taken to the hospital for further treatment after he was revived.
