The Belize Red Cross has not only celebrated World Red Cross week, but also 25 years of service to the people of Belize as a National Society.
The National Society commenced celebrations of this first landmark anniversary by coinciding with World Red Cross week.
The week of celebrations and activities commenced on May 3rd with a parade through the streets of Belize City with participation of all 8 branches, ending at the site of the 2nd Annual Radio thon.
The first annual parade was well attended. Staff and volunteers from all branches met and assembled in Belize City, wearing matching “25th Anniversary” t-shirts and baseball caps, accompanied by marching bands and numerous youth volunteers.
A total of over three hundred people aged between eight years to 80 plus years, participated in the parade, which wound its way from Central American Boulevard, along Freetown Road, turning into Victoria Street, and finally onto North Front Street, ending at the BRC’s 2nd annual Radio Thon in progress in the heart of the city.
The parade itself attracted much attention from persons watching from their homes and from the side of the road.
