The St Kitts branch
of the St Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society held an impressive
Enrollment Service May 6 at its Horsford Road headquarters.
This function was held to officially enlist 126 members from
various districts within the branch into the Red Cross fraternity.
Rev E Christopher offered prayers and words of wisdom to the
gathering.
The service was graced with the presence of the Deputy Prime
Minister, the Hon. Sam Condor, who delivered the feature address.
He praised the efforts of the Red Cross in providing a viable
alternative for youth and pledged the support of the Government
as it relates to the work of the Society.
In her remarks, St Kitts and Nevis RC President, Mrs. Gwen Nisbett
underscored the remarkable role played by some of the key members
of the Red Cross and urged the newly enrolled to pattern their
involvement after these individuals.
Mrs. Natalie Fough, Branch Director, gave an overview of the
Brontie Welsh Award - an award usually given to members who demonstrated
significant and outstanding involvement in activities such as
first aid, HIV peer education, water safety and disaster related
activities.
Members of the youth Red Cross entertained the appreciative
audience. At the end of the service, the Branch honoured long
serving member, 82-year old Mrs. Mary Bowry.
Refreshments were served and the gathering departed after what
was described as a very enjoyable experience.
