The Jamaica Red Cross
(JRC) will host its annual National Youth Rally on Friday, April
27 at the Emancipation Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme is “Bowling
for Human Dignity”.
The event is the JRC's major national youth development activity
for the year. Approximately 2,000 Red Cross youth from 60 schools
across Jamaica will come together to network with each other,
share experiences, dialogue, and celebrate their talents and
prowess.
Several schools will be mounting exhibitions of their wares
and creations for the public while they compete for prizes in
several competitions including the First Aid, Banner, Culinary
Arts, Arts and Craft, Drill, Dance and Quiz competitions.
With
the Cricket World Cup currently being played in the region,
competitors have been asked to pay tribute to the event by exhibiting
creative pieces that utilises any representations of cricket
in delivering a message around human dignity. The rally will also feature a mini road march at 11 a.m. led
by the Digicel Music Truck and the St Patrick Foundation Marching
band , a surprise concert at 2 p.m. and a closing and awards
ceremony at 2:45 p.m.
Several organisations and partners will mount booths to provide
holistic life skills package for all attendees. Some of these
agencies include VMBS, HEART, RISE Life Management Services,
Jamaica A IDS Support for Li f e, Ministry of Health, National
Youth Service, Nestle, Road Safety Unit, JA STYLE, Narcotics
Division, and the National Environmental and Planning Agency.
The main sponsor s are Digicel and Guardian Life. Other sponsors
include JPS, Win d alcoa, National Water Commission, The Gleaner
Company, KSAC, Jamaica Pegasus, Jamaica Private Power Company,
UDC, Blue Cross, Pepsi, and Island Grill.
