Grenada Red Cross prepares for passage of 'Dean'

Members of the Board of Directors, Director General, staff and key volunteers met August 16 at the Grenada Red Cross (GRCS) Headquarters to refresh themselves of the disaster response procedures of the National Society.

Also involved in the meeting were many of the RIT Trained and specially trained volunteers – shelter and telecom.

Issues discussed included the local response plan should tropical storm Dean make landfall, procedures for reporting and communicating with external agencies, strategies for eliciting assistance for possibly affected sister national societies as well as preparation of the RIT trained for possible deployment to the field.

Meanwhile GRCS telecom specialist, Dexter Charles, was in radio contact with Antigua RC, Dominica RC, St. Lucia RC and a radio operator of St. Vincent from 3:00 to 4:10 p.m. Another radio communication session is carded for 8:00 p.m.
