Grenada Red Cross volunteers clean community for Hurricane season

July 5, 2007

Members of the Tocobay Red Cross Committee in Grenada demonstrated their commitment towards community development on June 23, as they engaged in activities to ensure that their community is prepared for an expected intense Hurricane season.

Committee president Kenton Thomas lead members on this important drive of trimming overhanging branches, clearing drains of debris and also constructing drains within the community to mitigate the impact of flooding associated with the season.

Earlier in the month, the committee staged a June 16 Walk a Thon from the Tocobay Junction to St. David’s Police Station. The main aim of the exercise was to raise funds for First Aid kits, to heighten public awareness and to share preparedness tips for the season.

The committee was established in 2005 under the French Red Cross bilateral program with the Grenada Red Cross.
