Belize Red Cross hosts Radio-thon to raise funds, promote programmes

June 22 , 2007

The Belize Red Cross (BRC) held its First Annual Red Cross Radio-thon on Saturday, June 16th.

The eight-hour event in Belize City was organised by the BRC’s Fund Raising Committee chaired by Mrs. Judy McCutcheon, a member of the Executive committee.

The overall goal was to raise a minimum of BZ$50,000.  BRC volunteers were out in numbers to assist with several activities:handling telephone lines, collecting pledges, engaging the public interest, helping to build awareness of the BRC’s programmes and activities via live radio.  Love FM aired the entire event, while Wave Radio and Positive Vibes did live capsule reports.

Among the speakers were members of the Executive Committee, volunteers, and recipients of our services.

Disaster preparedness and response activities and programmes were highlighted as it was the beginning of the hurricane season.

The ProVention Team conducted the snake-and-ladder styled Riskland Game with young people and other interested persons, the Thrift Shop operated a booth and items were exchanged for affordable donations and the BRC Detachment #6 First Aid volunteers gave free blood pressure checks.

Music was supplied by DJ Gustavo Matus and the Pantempers Steel Band throughout the day.
