A five-year strategic plan for the Aruba Red Cross (ARC) has been developed with the help of an experienced volunteer from the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC).

For two months, Tjeerd van Hooff worked as a volunteer of the ARC, an overseas branch of the NLRC. Mr van Hooff’s presence is part of a project between branches in the Netherlands and Caribbean OSB’s.

The Project participation programme is developed in the NLRC to involve local branches with the International Red Cross work. Under this programme a highly succesful elderly project of the Curaçao branch is financially supported by the Noord West Veluwe District.

Mr van Hooff’s main task while in Aruba was assisting with the development of their strategic plan, and an operational plan for 2008. Mr. Van Hooff also met with key stakeholders and prepared a report on the general situation in Aruba regarding disaster prevention and management.

Mr. Van Hooff has extensive experience as a CEO for several national and international retail companies. As a volunteer, he has assisted several NLRC branches and districts with their strategic plans.

The Leidschendam branch financed van Hooff’s stay and also contributed to the purchase of First Aid materials for Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao overseas branches.

The ARC’s next step is to the appoint a full time branch director to implement the developed plan.
