'Faces' campaign

Negotiations have taken place, and the final date for the launch of the 'Faces' campaign in St Lucia is October 30.

The campaign will raise public awareness of the need to protect their sexual health by using a condom during sexual intercourse.

Activities will include a radio call-in programme, full colour advertisements in the popular 'YO!' magazine, distribution of posters, tee-shirts and tote bags. The campaign message, "Nobody has the truth written on their face, protect yourself, use a condom" will be prominent.

Funding for the campaign, which will run for 12 weeks, will come from the St Lucia AIDS Prevention and Control Project.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2007

Staff and volunteers have begun training in preparation for the International Cricket Council's Cricket World Cup 2007, which will be held in the region for the first time.

Skills in Emergency Care, Mass Casualty Management, Radio Communications and Customer Relations were fine-tuned.

In an effort to meet the demands of the Cricket World Cup, volunteers have been undergoing training sessions on afternoons and weekends.

The training covers a number of areas, including simulation exercises to apply the practical skills.

Nurses trained in CPR

Approximately 150 registered nurses from around St Lucia have been trained and certified in Adult CPR/AED.

Certified Instructors Hubert Pierre and Marva Edward conducted the training at the St Lucia Red Cross headquarters, from July to September.

The sessions were organised as a result of a request from the Ministry of Health. The Ministry is upgrading health facilities islandwide, and will be installing AED machines.

Annual anti-litter march

The St Lucia Solid Waste Management organises an anti-litter campaign every year to raise the public's awareness of issues dealing with solid waste management.

The St Lucia Red Cross youth support the activities by providing First Aid services during the culminating activity, an Anti-litter March, and this year was no different.

Youth members of the Ciceron Secondary School Branch and the Bocage Secondary School Branch provided the services at the march held October 13.

They were supported by Terencia Gaillard, Director General of the St Lucia Red Cross.
