July
2006 will see some 300 Red Cross youths from around the region
gather in Grenada for a regional youth camp.
Youth members between ages seven to
35 from the English–speaking
National Societies and Overseas Branches will gather July 23-30
for a week of excitement and togetherness under the theme ‘Protecting
Human Dignity through Youth Initiatives”
Preparations have begun for the hosting
of this event. The Grenada Red Cross Society is currently holding
talks with major stakeholders to confirm sponsorship of the
event, and a number of committees have been set up, including
Visibility & Promotions, Finance & Administration,
Food, Transportation, Competition and Judging, Protocol & Liaison,
and Community Services.
A logo has been designed and launched
by the planning committee. A number of challenge trophies are
up for grabs including the Best Creative Arts portrayal of
the Red Cross Fundamental Principles, King, and Queen of the
Camp, and Best Island Night, an opportunity for participating
countries to debut their culture – food,
dress and dialect - while savoring of the Spice Isle.
Background
In 2004, St. Vincent Red Cross held a week-long camp attended
by youth from the Grenada Red Cross and a few other countries.
Last year, 2005, St. Kitts hosted a similar event. At the end
of the camp a country is nominated to host the next one, and
Grenada was nominated to host this year’s camp.
