Guyana Red Cross participated in Shelter Management Training

Guyana Red Cross (GRCS) was one of eight agencies that participated in a Shelter Management Training from 15-18 August, hosted by the Civil Defense Commission (CDC) and facilitated by the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID).

Two GRCS staff members, Bernadette Adonis and Julie Kanhai, and two volunteers, Wayne Jones and Norma Hamilton, attended.

Topics covered during this training included Risk Management, Operations, Administration, Problem Solving, the Shelter.

A simulation exercise was also carried out. CDC director Colonel Ramsarup shared the experiences of shelter managers during the Guyana 2005/06 floods and the lessons learnt. 

Col. Ramsarup also spoke on Policies, Shelter Plans/Management, the Community, Issues and Administration. 

The CDC noted that from among the participants in this training exercise, trainer of trainers will be selected. The training concluded with a brief presentation ceremony with participants receiving Certificates of Completion.
