Grenada Red Cross stresses safety first for Carnival

14 August 2006

The Health & Safety Department of the Grenada Red Cross Society (GRCS) launched a safety promotion for the island’s Carnival on August 14-15.

From July 31, advertisements from the GRCS’ department appeared in the local print media promoting three key messages.

The first was a reminder to citizens to be prepared during the hurricane season.

The second message focused on the need for caution during the festive season with the reality of   HIV/AIDS and other Sexuality Transmitted Infections. The final message was a call for nationals to be trained in First Aid & CPR.

A thousand First Aid key rings were distributed Carnival Monday night by GRCS volunteers before celebrations got underway via a voucher system.

A key ring comes with plastic strips, snips, a gauze pad, sting relief pads, antiseptic wipes and an antacid.
The short promotion was funded by the British Red Cross - Caribbean First Aid Project.
