Curaçao Red Cross receives US$ grant for HIV/AIDS work

The Curaçao chapter of the Netherlands Red Cross has received a one-time, one-year US$88,000 grant for HIV/AIDS.

The donation came from Uitvoeringsorganisatie Stichting Ontwikkeling Nederlandse Antillen (USONA).

USONA is tasked by The Foundation for the development of the Netherlands Antilles to monitor projects funded by the Netherlands government.

With these funds, the Curaçao Red Cross will continue its Together We Can (TWC) peer education programme with special attention to the most vulnerable of the island’s youth population, including teenage mothers and residents of youth reform institutions.

It will also be used to launch the “Faces” campaign and begin a pilot project that will train hairdressers to share HIV/AIDS information with their clients.

The “Faces” campaign is expected to be launched on December 1, World AIDS Day, when the Red Cross joins other organizations on the island working in the HIV/AIDS field for an awareness weekend.
