Bonaire Red Cross elects new board

28 June 2006

The Bonaire Chapter of the Netherlands Red Cross elected a new board at its general assembly on June 23.

The seven-member board will be led by Johny Wever. District manager Dr Angelo Ramirez and NLRC programme manager Ingrid Jansen were present, and were the first persons to congratulate the new board members.

Among the priorities for the new board is the relocation of its headquarters. The building is located on the airport compound and new owners have built a fence around the compound which makes entry for Red Cross staff and volunteers difficult.

Airport authorities have located a new area where the headquarters, consisting of five containers, can be moved to, but the proper infrastructure is not in place.

Beside the relocation of the headquarters, other challenges the new board will face are: the acceptance of the new statutes; the development of a five-year plan; the development a fundraising plan; re-start first aid courses; and attracting more volunteers.
