Bahamas Red Cross strengthens communications network

23 August 2006

The Bahamas Red Cross (BRC) has strengthened its communications network for Hurricane season 2006.

During the month of July, High Frequency radios were installed in the communities of Abaco, Acklins, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Long Island, Ragged  Island, San Salvador and at the BRC
headquarters on New Providence.

These radios will allow the Society to communicate on a daily basis and to be able to keep in contact in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, training in Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment is ongoing in the Bahamas. The VCA training began in June in the Gambier community on
New Providence.

After completing Gambier, the VCA training workshops will be held in the communities of  Adelaide, Marsh Harbour, Abaco and West End, Grand Bahama.

The project will hopefully be completed in February 2007.
