Aruba Red Cross board and volunteers develop strategic plan

6 October 2006

The Aruba chapter of the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) has developed a strategic plan.

The recently installed board met with Ingrid Jansen, NLRC Programme Manager for the Netherland Antilles, for the intensive workshop, which served as a perfect platform for deeper reflection, prioritisation and fine tuning.

Mr. Emilio Guzmán, Regional Organizational Development Officer based at the Panama Regional Delegation, facilitated the discussions.

The foundation for the plan was in place after an intensive two day effort. No less than 16 persons - a board member-volunteer amalgamation - participated in giving direction to this five year plan. It was also a perfect opportunity for the new board members and volunteers to get to know each other.

During the workshop it was found that while the Aruba Red Cross can count on one part-time paid administration staff, the organisation is confronted with an expanding field of play.

Rather than spread its efforts thinly over an increasing area of issues, strategic choices must be made intending to focus efforts on a narrower scope leading to more effective and efficient results.

In accordance with Strategy 2010, four major core areas were defined and in most of the chosen fields of interest, the Aruba Red Cross is already carrying out projects.

The strategic plan will not only have benefits for a clearer direction but is a key instrument for attaining funds. It will also help harmonise the local with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ strategies, while maintaining a ‘coleur regional’.
