Lethem branch holds TWC Peer Educator Refresher Course

7 November 2005

A Peer Educator (PE) Refresher was facilitated for 19 Peer Educators at the Lethem branch office of the Guyana Red Cross during the period October 14-16.

Training was facilitated by Instructor Trainers Shelon Ambrose and Ray O’Connell, and supervised by National Trainers Jason Foo and Julie Kanhai.

Two Peace Corp volunteers working at the St. Ignatius Secondary School and hospital conducted the STI, Sexuality, Gender Role and Psychosocial factors lectures/discussions.

During the talks, an STI digital presentation was done. The use of visual aids had a more profound impact on learning and it introduced a new spice to the PE Refresher training.

Other topics covered during the session were:

  • An introduction to Guyana Red Cross Society
  •  PEs R&R
  • Abstract of the Together We Can project
  • Monitoring Tools

Of the 19 PEs present, all showed confidence in the content and use of the activity kits.  PEs present participated wholeheartedly and shared their experiences during their teach backs.
