German Red Cross provides flood relief in Guyana

13 May 2005

In the height of flood activities, the German Red Cross sent a representative to Guyana , to determine how best they can help to provide relief to the Guyanese people, in collaboration with the Guyana Red Cross.

In March, the Government of Germany and the German Red Cross shipped relief supplies in the form of 2000 water filters, 4000 mosquito nets, 2000 plastic buckets and 2000 kitchen sets, to Guyana.

Communities targeted to receive these supplies were those not previously reached and included Good Hope, Enterprise , and Sparendam.

A thousand water filters, 4000 mosquito nets, 1000 plastic buckets and 1000 kitchen sets were distributed in these communities.

The remaining relief items, supplied by the German Red Cross, were then distributed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health from the health centres in the various communities. Specifically targeted were pregnant women, and women with children two years and under.
