During the weekly luncheon of the Rotary Club of Tortola, immediate past President Humphrey Leue presented a cheque for US$2,500 to Mrs. Edris O'Neal and Mrs. Eugenie Glasgow, director and treasurer, respectively, of the BVI Red Cross.

The cheque represents the final installment of funds donated by Rotarians and friends of the Rotary Club in support of the "Hands Across the Ocean" Tsunami disaster relief fundraising appeal which was co-sponsored by the organisation.

Mrs. O' Neal thanked the club and expressed appreciation on behalf of the BVI Red Cross. She reported that with this cheque, the total amount raised through the appeal is now US$44,000.

The appeal was initiated by Ms. Annie Gardner, a long-time resident of the BVI and member of the American Red Cross. The funds were raised partly through sales of bumper stickers sponsored by Rotarians bearing the "Hands Across the Ocean" slogan and logo, as well as through other donations from the BVI community.

The funds will be channeled through the International Red Cross' Tsunami Relief Fund to ensure that they are used for the intended purpose.
