Live performances make Belize Red Cross Carnival float a hit

Belizean Voices for Better Choices - that was the chosen theme for the Belize Red Cross’ float at the Belize Carnival Parade.

For this year’s parade the BRC teamed up with PASMO (Pan American Social Marketing Organization) and dozens of local artists, poets and musicians to put together the float, which traveled through the streets of Belize City as a moving stage. The float featured a series of live performances by artists who shared positive messages about life, love, and responsibility; it turned out to be popular among the Belizean youth.

The theme was a message for Belizeans to reflect on how they can change their own behaviours, in order to live healthier lives.

The first to perform on September 10 was the South Central Boys, two young boys ages nine and ten, who sang “I’m just too young”. The song was a message for young people to take their time and focus on building a foundation by getting a good education before falling in love.

Other performances included poems by Poets R Us members Candice Williams and the famous Erwin X, along with music performances by the popular Dan Marcus and Together We Can Instructor Trainer Haneef Lemoth and his brother Sion Lemoth. Musical sounds were directed by Rock Hard Sounds.

Items distributed while in the parade included book markers, pencils and beads, as well as pens and ID holders donated by the Ministry of Health.
