Bahamas Red Cross closes relief efforts

The Bahamas Red Cross is closing relief efforts to the family islands which were affected by Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne last year.

There are currently two 20 ft containers with 1,000 pre-packaged food parcels and one 40 ft container with a 1,000 hygiene kits, 1,000 water buckets and 1,000 sheets of tarpaulins. These will be shipped to Grand Bahama on Thursday January 6 th , 2005 .

This shipment of relief supplies were provided by The European Commission for Humanitarian Aid office (ECHO).

The staff and volunteers of the Red Cross are being assisted by volunteers from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (Federation) Ms Suzanne Klitgaard, logistics officer, Ms Sheila Thornton and Ms Marie Claire Brien.

This will be the final shipment to Abaco and Grand Bahama , but 1,000 boxes of relief items, including food will be sent to the remaining islands, which were affected before the end of January.
