The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross has received
EC$20,000 from an Antiguan donor for its ongoing "Together We
Can" HIV/STI Peer Education Training Project.
The donor, "Island People",
made a cheque presentation of EC $20,366.35 to Red Cross director
general, Gerald Price.
An Island People representative said "We
have been following the progress of the Red Cross HIV/AIDS
programme in Antigua for several years and we are proud to
make a contribution to the education of our youths about HIV/AIDS."
Joan Gomes, Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross HIV/AIDS coordinator,
said the donation will assist the Red Cross in training about
1,000 youths in Antigua and Barbuda through the peer-to-peer
project by the end of 2005.
Gomes added that 60 youths from the Anglican Youth Camp, Ottos
Comprehensive School , Antigua Grammar School and the Girls'
High School have already been trained during 2005. Funds for
this training were provided by the United Nations Office on Drug
and Crime.
