The Anguillian public can now have daily
access to the office of the Anguilla Red Cross. On Thursday 1st
December 2005 the office began operation by someone employed
by Red Cross to run it.
According to President of the local Red Cross Society Ms. Doreen
James this is the 1st time in the history of the organisation
on the island that there is paid staff to keep the office open.
Ms. James added that the presence of an Office Administrator
will not only make the office more accessible to the public on
a daily basis but will also provide continuous communication
with the public, the regional body and the office in Briton.
The Anguilla Red Cross Society office will be open Monday to
Friday from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
Meanwhile, the Red Cross Minivan continues to function in a
regular role of assisting patients with transport to and from
their respective clinics.
According to Ms. James, the assistance is presently confined
to the eastern part of the island as there is still a need for
volunteer drivers in the west.
Ms. James expressed the organization’s
hope to expand services to cover the entire island and issued
an appeal for volunteer drivers.
Persons interested in volunteering can call
the Red Cross Office at 497-0406, Monday to Friday between 8:30a.m.
and 12:30 p.m.
