Red Cross takes part in Anguilla Day celebrations

24 June 2005

The Anguilla Red Cross joined other Anguillans and residents to observe the 38th Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution on May 30 th .

The observance is seen here as an occasion for unity, thanksgiving, reflection and looking forward.

The participation of the Red Cross comes amid calls for increased support for two of the less festive activities. According to comments from the chief minister's office, the Ecumenical Service and the Anguilla Day Parade are two national activities that are usually held for the celebration but in the past they have received scant support by public servants.

The Red Cross took part in the National Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service under the theme "Community mobilization to build our Nation".

The service was held at the Mount Fortune Seventh Day Adventist Church on Sunday May 29th at 4.30 p.m.

The local society also attended the parade, march past and drill display which was a highlight of the Anguilla Day activities on May 30th at the James Ronald Webster Park.

Other activities for that day included the popular Anguilla Day Round the Island Boat Race and a Senior Citizens Luncheon.
