TT Red Cross launches appeal to assist DR and Haiti

The Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society (TTRCS) is appealing for monetary assistance for the people of the Dominican Republic and Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating floods that claimed and continues to claim lives in those countries.

The impact of the floods and landslides that have devastated larger parts of the Dominican Republic and Haiti will be felt for some considerable time to come.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched a new appeal due to the severity of the current situation and a revised figure of 2.4 million Swiss Francs (US $1.9 million) has been given. The aim is to help with supplying 25,000 people with food, kitchen equipment and stoves, plastic sheeting, tents, treated mosquito nets and First Aid kits.

Floods and landslides have claimed an estimated 2,000 lives and thousands more are stranded and homeless. Many areas in Haiti are still in accessible except by helicopter, severely hampering the relief effort.

Funds can be sent to any Republic Bank in Trinidad and Tobago – account number 1-80267068504 or the Red Cross Office. For further information please call 1-868-627-8215 0r 1-868-627-8128.
