Haiti trains 18 persons at TWC Instructor Training workshop

Haiti has the highest HIV incidence rate in the Caribbean. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and CARAN has been working together to provide the Haitian Red Cross with access to one of the tools being used in the English speaking Caribbean, which has successfully contributed to a reduction in the HIV rate among young people between the ages of 10 and 19. This tool is called “Together We Can (TWC).”

However, one of the greatest challenges in introducing this tool was the fact that the TWC manual was only available in English.

In 2003, the TWC manuals were translated into three languages – Haitian Creole, Spanish and Papiamento. At the first regional Trainer of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Santo Domingo last year, one regional trainer, Glenys Gonzales and three national trainers were trained.

In accordance with TWC methodology, the national trainers proceed to train instructor trainers in Haiti.

This is a landmark achievement for the Haitian Red Cross, the Federation and CARAN.

With the support of the Netherlands Red Cross, a total of 18 persons from the four branches of Jacmel, Gonaive, St Marc and Port-au-Prince were trained at the TWC Instructor Training Workshop in Haiti.
