Jamaica National Society

Since 1948, Jamaica Red Cross has responded to the needs of Jamaicans across the island. The Jamaica Red Cross Headquarters is located in Central Village in St. Catherine, and we also have 13 branches located in the parishes of Jamaica.

The main areas of work are Disaster Preparedness and Response; Youth Development; Communications and Dissemination of Humanitarian Principles and Values; and Health and Care. We are part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. With more than 97 millions volunteers in 183 national societies, it is the largest humanitarian organisation in the world. Our work is closely tied in with Strategy 2010, the strategy of the movement.

The Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross – Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality – guide all of our work. These principles allow us to provide help immediately to whoever needs it, wherever they are, whatever their race, political beliefs, religion, social status, or culture.
