Monday 05th May - Radio address by the president of the Anguilla Red Cross

Tuesday 06th May - Radio address by the Minister of Social Development

Wednesday 07th May - A health fair at the grounds of the General Post Office from 8:30am to 12:00 noon

Thursday 08th May  - Radio address by the Minister of Social Development. An Activity with the Junior Red Cross in the day

Barbados

The Youth Division of the Barbados Red Cross will have a display on May 7 at the St Leonard's Boys' School, Richmaond Gap, St Michael at 3 pm as part of the Red Cross week of activities.

The display will reflect Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) personnel executing an emergency response by helping an affected person.

This display will show students of the Red Cross Youth Links, what is required in responding to a request for ambulance service assistances.
 
Points of discussion will include:
 
·  The importance for First Aid training
·  Handling of the injured
·  Universal precautions
·  Equipment used by Ambulance personnel
·  Question & Answer sessions
 
All Youth Link members are asked to wear their Red Cross uniform. Red Cross volunteers who are attending are asked to wear a Red Cross shirt.

British Virgin Islands

Dominica

In observance of World Red Cross Day and its 50 Anniversary, the Dominica Red Cross will host an Open House at its National Headquarters on May 8 to showcase the work of Red Cross over the past 50 years.  

The Honourable Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers together with corporate representatives have been invited to attend this awareness event organised by staff and volunteers.  

On-going PowerPoint presentations of past and present relief and other service activities will form the backdrop for information sharing including demonstrations of AED administration, use of a water testing kit, and viewing the contents of a RIT delegate kit.  Each programme area will be showcased by materials and other training outputs.  

On departure, corporate representatives will be given a pledge sheet soliciting their generous support towards the continued services of the Red Cross.  

The media has also been invited to cover this event and will host the Director General to speak to the voluntary services provided by Red Cross over the past half century. In the days following members of the public and school children will attend similar viewings.

Guyana
  • The Guyana Red Cross will show a few "Planet Earth"  videos to its staff on Climate Change and the Red Cross' work in this area. The videos will be shown on May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 (one video  per day - five videos in total).
  • On May 7, the Guyana Red Cross will have a press conference for the Red Cross message which will be delivered by the Chairman or Secretary General of the Guyana Red Cross

The Guyana Red Cross will have a number of activities to commenorate World Red Cross Day 2008.

  • On May 8 the Red Cross will publish four newspaper articles in their daily newspapers. The articles will cover four topics including:
    • Red Cross Emblems
    • Reflections over 60 years - Highlights and Timelines of the Guyana Red Cross
    • What the Guyana Red Cross does? (This will highlight all the work that the Red Cross has done, and what programmes they are currently involved in)
    • Voices of Volunteers ( Profiles of some of the Red Cross' volunteers - Their thoughts on volunterring with the Red Cross)
    • There will also be a "Lunch and Learn" event every Thursday for the month of May. The event will see persons bringing their own lunch to the Red Cross' headquarters (Kenneth DeAbreu Auditorium) to listen to discussions on different topics such as Climate Change (May 8); Disaster Preparedness for Individual and Family (may 15); Community Disaster Preparedness (May 22) and "What can we do about Climate Change? A call to action" (May 29). The Guyana Red Cross will be providing desserts for these events
    • The Red Cross will also hold it Volunteer Orientation on May 8.

St Lucia

The St Lucia Red Cross started their activities for World Red Cross Day on April 28. They have started selling Red Cross flags throughout the island for EC$1. This is also one of the fundraising ventures.

On May 4, the Red Cross will hold a rally in Gros Islet and they have invited other uniformed groups and organizations to attend. There will also be a Youth Talent show in Gros Islet on the 4th as well as workshops on HIV and AIDS and Disaster Management.

On May 6, the Governor General will deliver the Red Cross’ Patron’s message on television and radio.

St Vincent and the Grenadines

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross Society began a week of activities to mark Red Cross week. Activities began on Saturday May 3, 2008 with a Together We Can teen councilor’s workshop. 

Together We Can programme prepares teens positively impact other teens relative to the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS. Twenty five teenagers benefited from the training which is expected to continue over the next two months.

The workshop was conducted under the supervision of Regional Trainer Delando Charles, and National Trainers Altosher Anderson, Natalie Constance, Hazel-Dean Collins and Natana Ma Lean. 

Members of the Society attended church in their various communities on Saturday 3rd May and Sunday 4th May. The highlight of the week of activities is a convention to be held on International Red cross Day, Thursday May 8th.

The Convention takes place at the Red Cross Headquarters under the theme "Together for Humanity". Rev. Elton Watson will be the featured speaker, while Director of NEMO Mr. Howie Prince is expected to address the convention.

Trinidad & Tobago

Activities for World Red Cross Day will be held in Tobago

Saturday May 3 - Bus tours around Tobago to historical sites and a youth concert

Thursday May 8 – The Youth Department of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross will hold its annual National Chain Gathering at Shaw Park, Tobago in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.

The theme for this year “Together for Humanity” will be reflected in all activities and invited guests will speak about the Red Cross and its role in the country.

The annual Chain Gathering is a time of celebration with Red Cross youth. Active youth members of the Red Cross are recognized and presented with certificates, trophies and book prizes for the past year’s achievement.

Approximately 100 link members, 30 Patrons, Red Cross officials and members from Trinidad will attend the Chain Gathering.
