The Anguilla
Red Cross has planned its week of activities for World Red Cross
Red Crescent Day around this
year’s theme of “Stop Discrimination.” They are
going to focus on the elderly this year, because they are “just
laid aside with little or no attention,” according to Doreen
James, President of the Anguilla Red Cross.
They will be launching their “Elderly Project” by
commissioning a new 15 seater minivan which was custom made with
stretcher and wheelchair space. The bus was donated by the British
Red Cross to assist with this project.
Activities in commemoration of World Red Cross Day start on Sunday
May 2 and include:
Sunday May 2nd - Church Service at the Ebenezer Methodist Church
Tuesday May 4th - Message by Minister of Social Development or
representative
Wednesday May 5th - Radio talk show
Thursday May 6th - Overview of activities at the Anguilla Red
Cross on the radio
Friday May 7th - Blood Group testing drive, blood pressure checks,
Launching of Elderly Project and commissioning of minivan. There
will be a short ceremony of the latter two activities with remarks
from the relevant government officials as the programme relates
to them.
