YOUTH
FEST 2006 will take place this year to commemorate
World AIDS Day on 1st December, 2006.
The theme is “Youth
and AIDS in the 21st Century Move On...”. Five
thousand young people from all of the districts in Belize
are expected to be mobilized through a coordinated effort
of participating organizations. These youths will come
together and show their support in the fight against HIV & AIDS
through artistic performances and activities in solidarity.
YOUTH FEST 2006 will feature performances
by children and adolescents from schools in all the districts,
as well as by youths involved in various organizations throughout
the country.
There will also be performances by local
Belizean artists committed to raising awareness about issues
related to HIV & AIDS and human rights. These
performances will all address the theme by focusing on positive
messages related to HIV & AIDS, such as reducing stigma
and discrimination, encouraging testing, promoting safer sex
practices, and making good decisions about their health.
In addition, youth-friendly activities
and booths will be ongoing throughout the day to keep the young
people involved and excited, as well as provide educational
opportunities.
Youth Fest 2006 is a collaobrative effort
of the Belize Red Cross/Together We Can project, XChange, Ministry
of Education, National Institute for Culture and History, Youth
for the Future and UNICEF.
